It all began in 1814 during the conflict that had been a secret. First, the risk loving skunk* had been at work with his blender when he noticed that he was out of creamy spinach.** With a jump that would have earned him high grades, he was out of his hole in a flash. He was stopped in his tracks when first he was stunned by the frosty cold and second when a falling branch decided to land on him. When he woke, the first thing he saw was an eagle*** flying straight down at him.
"AHH!" the skunk yelled in a high voice. The eagle suddenly changed course to land beside him in the snow.
"Well, I was just going to eat you for breakfast, but first take a look at all the flowers in bloom."
"Huh?" said the skunk, for of course there were no flowers. It was in the middle of January.
"Aha!" said the eagle and he jumped at the skunk.
"Stop!" said a loud and husky voice belonging to a respected badger.****
"He started it, sir," said the eagle.
"No, I was going to get some creamy spinach," said the skunk.
"Well, I shall grant you that," said the badger, "but if anything like this happens again, then I will shoot first, ask questions later."
